The rooms are spacious, there's hot water in the showers, and breakfast is good. It comes with a pleasant conservatory view over the private garden, and the staff are friendly. The street noise is a problem, though. Also, if you don't have dollars with you, expect a bad exchange rate from dollars to bolivianos. That added an unexpected 15-20 dollars to our stay compared with the advertised price.

We got to El Consulado exhausted at 6am after a gruelling 17-hour coach ride and rang the bell. The owner welcomed us warmly, let us check in far earlier than the stated time, made us an incredible breakfast, and shared information about La Paz. Our huge room felt safe and secure, and stayed quiet even with the busy streets and a big street festival going on. It had furniture from the building's time as a Consulado. There are no safes, but we felt secure enough that we didn't need one. The showers gave instant hot water, which we rarely found elsewhere. We could walk to the main attractions in around 10 minutes, with plenty of places to eat nearby. We'd happily stay here again if we return to La Paz. Thanks for the kind hospitality.

We came back twice during our travels because of the shower. It has hot water and a normal heating system instead of an electric one, the best shower in Bolivia! I also liked the winter garden for breakfast, and the staff were helpful. The curtains could be darker since it gets rather light outside, but thanks for everything else.

The rooms are big, the beds are a good size, and the decor is pretty cool. But it's noisy from the street and from the wood creaking as people move around. The doorbells chime at night when people come in, so sleeping isn't great.
