I picked this hotel because it sits between Bus Station Cementario and Main Bus Station, with tour agencies about a ten-minute walk downhill. It’s a nice family-run place in a busy but safe neighborhood, close to markets and shops. My room was clean, the shower was hot, and the staff were attentive and patient with my limited Spanish. I started out in a small room with a shared bathroom and shower. For the longer part of my stay, I was glad I paid extra for a larger, sunny room with its own bathroom. They also kept my luggage while I was away for three nights. The one drawback was breakfast timing. It’s included, but only served from 8:30 to 9:30, which is too late if you’re heading out on a tour.

Everything is close by here, including the Witches Market, San Francisco Church, and the Red Line Cableway. There’s an amazing panoramic view over La Paz, and it’s a good spot for local tourism and buying electronics equipment.

For 90 bolivianos a night, I was happy with this place near the city center. I stayed three nights and used the Wi-Fi for work without any trouble. The rooms are modest, and the shared bathrooms and showers are basic but functional, with hot water. There’s a classic continental breakfast, and laundry is available if you ask. The building has six floors, but luckily there’s an elevator. I’d recommend it to people who don’t need much and want a well-placed place to stay.

The worn bedding and towels were the main thing I didn’t like. The rooms themselves are spacious and have a TV and Wi-Fi, and there’s an elevator, laundry facilities, and continental breakfast. Hotel La Joya is in the middle of La Paz’s commercial district, within walking distance of the Witches’ Market and the cable car. One note about finding it: the map pin isn’t right, as the hotel is half a block away.
