Restaurant Flora was a highlight for us each morning, with excellent food and a lovely view over the water. We stayed for a week in early February at Hotel Bougainvillea, right on the water, in an Oceanfront Cabana just steps from it. The room matched the website photos. It’s a small hotel, which suited us, in a quiet stretch of coast that felt relaxing but was still close enough to reach town restaurants easily. The staff were helpful, responsive, and friendly from booking through checkout. The airport is nearby, but it didn’t bother us. There aren’t many planes, and we actually enjoyed watching them land. We had a wonderful stay.

We loved our five nights here and found it hard to leave. The views were spectacular, and our accommodation was clean, comfortable, and peaceful. It’s simply done but covers the essentials, with extra things available on request. The location also works well for getting to the airport, beaches, and shops. Bonaire had the best food of the 19 Caribbean islands we’ve visited, but Flora on site still stood out. It had just the right mix of comfort and elegance. We’re big fans of The Bear (iykyk), so we were keen to try the chef’s menu. Each surprise course was intricate and delightful. Book dinner ahead. The atmosphere felt magical. My husband kept asking how I’d found the place, though the reviews give you a good idea.

Bougainvillea was a great place to spend two weeks. The rooms are comfortable and clean, with useful things like toiletries, a coffee machine, cups, and beach towels. There’s plenty of parking, and the location works well logistically. The team is young, attentive, and kind. The place is new, having opened in March 2025. There’s a small beach on site, with Donkey beach and some food trucks close by. The restaurant is excellent for breakfast and fine dining at dinner. I needed medical help during my stay, and the staff gave me wonderful support. Much appreciation to the whole team, keep going 💪

Our beachfront villa had a beautiful view, but getting down to the beach wasn’t easy. The room was small but cute, with a romantic feel. We skipped the hotel food because there was so much to explore outside. The airport is close, so you hear planes overhead. The public beach is nearby too, and loud music carried late into the night.

The cleaning staff were lovely and hardworking. If you stay, please tip them well. Given management’s treatment of paying guests, I can only imagine how they treat the staff. I paid extra for a “Premium” “Ocean Front” room, but got no privacy. My balcony was a busy walkway for cleaners and other guests, passing within a foot or two whenever I tried to sit outside. The hotel is directly across from the airport and under its flight path. Planes came in so low that the whole building shook. The property felt dated and poorly kept. A dead palm tree filled much of my window view for all 10 days, garbage in common areas was never cleared, and the outdoor furniture was faded and uncomfortable. I also saw staff reach into the ice with bare hands instead of using a scoop or cup, which raised a serious hygiene concern. I first left a positive review of the hotel while criticizing the restaurant for not providing even one vegan meal. Management didn’t address that feedback. They “ambushed” me at the front desk and pressured me to remove the review. I did at the time to feel comfortable during my 10-day stay, but their ongoing lack of professionalism has left me feeling I have to be fully transparent. Boutique hotels are meant to offer personal service and attention to detail, but that wasn’t my experience. In 2026, I think it’s reasonable to expect a “pivot menu” where a dish can be changed, even by simply removing cheese. During the whole stay, no effort was made to accommodate me. Staff could easily have picked up hummus or fresh items from a local grocery store for a vegetable plate, but made no effort. When I brought this up, they said it was “my fault” for not calling ahead to make an “informed choice” before booking. They didn’t help me find local restaurants that could serve a vegan diet either, just told me “no” repeatedly. After taking down my first review, I emailed them directly with genuine, non-critical feedback. I suggested they find a vegan option or keep a list of nearby restaurants that offer one, so guests could feel cared for instead of ignored. I’d made clear that I preferred email, but they insisted they “prefer in-person conversations.” True hospitality means communicating in the way a guest feels most comfortable. Instead, I was cornered at the front desk while coming back with takeout, made to discuss my feedback as my meal went cold, and confronted about the review. Don’t be fooled by the “boutique” description. This is a dated property with confrontational management that doesn’t value guest privacy, hygiene, or basic dietary needs.
