The owners’ service was the one thing that helped. The place is very expensive for what it offers, though the breakfast was decent. The facilities are extremely basic, close to rundown: the mattresses were sagging, the windows didn’t close properly, there were no curtains, and the bathroom cleaning was poor, with lots of mold in the grout. There was no furniture for bags, not even a chair, and I stayed in two different rooms. On the first day I was put in a double room even though I wasn’t traveling as a couple. We asked to switch to a room with two beds, but in the end we had to sleep together because the single mattress in the other room was awful. The refrigerator and hair dryer are shared. You leave food in the fridge at reception and pick up the dryer there when you need it. I don’t recommend it.

If, like me, you booked through hotel urbano, some of the complaints here might make you nervous. But my experience was very different, and it surprised me in a really good way. Jonatas and his wife were incredible. They were attentive, offered tips, let us take fruit for our hikes, and even served breakfast earlier than usual because my group was leaving early for Cavalcante. The room was cozy and smelled clean, with fabric softener on the bedding. The shower was great, and from what I could tell, all the showers had been replaced. Breakfast was amazing too, with cakes, bread, cold cuts, juice, scrambled eggs, and more. The inn is right in the heart of Alto Paraíso, so you can walk around in the evening. Seriously, go with an open mind and you’ll love it.

The owners were helpful, but that was the only real positive. The room was small and dirty, with just a glass window and no curtain. I saw cockroaches in the hallways, had to ask for a fan because there wasn't one when I arrived, and the shower was mediocre. The only mirror was a tiny, rusty one on the bathroom cabinet. Breakfast was served late, from 8 to 10, and was awful. I stayed five days and couldn't manage even one cup of coffee. I wouldn't call this an inn so much as a boarding house, and I wouldn't stay here again. Good service is something you expect on a trip, not a substitute for decent accommodations. I have photos to back up this review.

After checkout, our car wouldn't start in the cold. It was full of ethanol, but the cold-start tank had no gasoline. We went back and Amanda and Jonatas immediately helped us figure out what was wrong and brought gasoline for us. We're really grateful for how welcoming and ready to help they were throughout the trip. Earlier in the week, the two owners were there each morning to answer questions and suggest ways to enjoy Chapada dos Veadeiros. Breakfast had lots of choices, including regional foods, which added to the experience. The accommodations are simple rather than luxurious, but they worked very well for us, and my stay at pousada Tradição exceeded my expectations. I had seen some unfair Google reviews and was a little worried. May God bless them.
