Fênix Plaza Hotel

The pool area was full of men drinking beer, so we didn't feel comfortable letting our young daughter use it. It didn't feel family-friendly. We arrived at 1:00 PM but couldn't check in until 2, while a group of BMW motorcycles arriving at the same time were allowed to check in. We waited in the car for an hour. Then we were told our triple room had just one queen bed, with a mattress on the floor planned for our 12 year old daughter. At almost $300 reais a night, we were unhappy with that. This was our first stay, though it never really happened, and we won't be back.

The front desk staff were great, and the service was excellent. Breakfast was decent for the price. One odd thing happened: locals were hanging around the lobby, and I'm positive one of them reported me to the authorities for no reason. The next morning, I had to show a local neighborhood watch my ID and rental car contract because someone had reported the car as a "possible" stolen vehicle. I still don't know why anyone would report a car stolen without knowing where it came from. It was ridiculous and funny at the same time. We travel a lot, so we just treated it as another random story to laugh about.

Really good.

Great.
