Angra Boutique Hotel

The hotel is inside a gated community, which felt incredibly secure. I had no safety concerns around the Hotel, though the nearby city didn't feel safe at night. Food options outside the hotel and beach area are limited. The hotel meals at lunch and dinner were fine but expensive. There’s a very good cafe by the community entrance, to the left of the gas station, and the gas station market was the cheapest nearby place for alcohol and snacks. Sushi Frade and the neighborhood pizza place were also good options. I’d suggest renting a car if you're comfortable driving there. Uber was unreliable, and the hotel can arrange taxis, but prices varied, especially for tourists. The bus to Paraty and other stops was only R$20, though it was hard to catch. I stayed five nights as a US tourist whose Portuguese isn't great, and I had a really good experience. Francisco and Leila were especially wonderful. Breakfast was included and lovely, with fresh fruit, meat, cheese, bread, plus a free menu of omelets, hot sandwiches, and other egg dishes. Our room was very nice and cleaned daily. The pool and boat dock were beautiful. Booking a private boat trip through the hotel was a highlight for everyone in our group. It was about R$2800 for six hours visiting different islands, with a maximum of nine people. There's also a boat running around the clock within walking distance, which crosses the water to the beach and nearby restaurants and bars. Those spots are relatively expensive, but the beach is beautiful, uncrowded, and has warm, clear, calm water.

We had a wonderful visit, and I’d happily come back if I get the chance. Evelyn, the Owner, is clearly detail-oriented and gives great customer service. The boutique hotel is set up really nicely, and the room size was decent. My husband especially loved the strong, hot shower. The breakfast was fantastic, with a big selection of juices, fruit, cheeses, Brazilian pastries and cakes, eggs, cold cuts, and coffee. There’s a heated pool, sauna, and gym, plus you can sit by the bay with a drink and watch the big boats and people passing by. The hotel is tucked away in a gated community, a little hidden gem.

I was left stranded and wouldn't trust this hotel with another booking. I arranged rooms for a friend and me, but there was a problem with the card, so I emailed right away to ask if they'd hold the reservation and how to send the card details. They replied with a booking confirmation. Then, on the day I was due to arrive, they told me the reservation had been cancelled because they were overbooked and the card hadn't authorized. The same card had worked fine at another hotel the night before and when I booked a replacement hotel. The communication was poor, and I'm very dissatisfied.

The hotel arranged a car to collect us when we landed, and we got very personal care throughout. Our rooms looked beautiful, breakfast had plenty of variety, and the hotel restaurant was excellent. We also relaxed by the pool and took a boat tour to several beaches. Friends had recommended the trip, and they were right, it was excellent.
