Hotel Atlantico Buzios Convention and Resort

The pool is great, and so is the area. My room had an ocean view, which helped make the stay okay overall. The outside looks nice, with well-kept gardens, but the hotel seems like it hasn’t been maintained for years. Once you look closely, a lot is broken and outdated. The room only had a fridge. The air conditioning was old and noisy, there were no fly screens, and the beds had old spring mattresses. The indoor play area is good for kids up to 3 years old, and the games in the play area could use an update. There was one power outlet with exposed wires, which I had to block off. The homemade outdoor play area didn’t look very safe, and reminded me of being a child in East Germany in the late 80s. Still, okay, just go with it, lol. Breakfast, which was included, was okay. After that, don’t expect too much from the restaurant, though the bar was okay. The staff didn’t speak English and didn’t seem especially welcoming. Maybe that was because I don’t speak the language, who knows.

The rooms are comfortable, with TVs and good beds. There’s a large outdoor pool, plus an indoor pool, saunas, and a gym. Breakfast was plentiful, with several kinds of bread, cheese, eggs, bacon, and more. A wonderful place.

The common areas at hotel Atlantico, Buzios look flashy and nice, but the hotel is run very poorly. The location is lovely, right by the water and just a few minutes’ walk from lots of boutiques and restaurants. Breakfast had a nice spread with a decent selection, and our couples massage at the spa was relaxing. But we left very disappointed and won’t stay here again when we visit Buzios. The room was dusty, the AC had mildew growing inside, and the blackout curtain had only one panel, covering half the window. The “clean” towel had brown skid marks, and we found several dead bugs around the room. The shower was hot only about half the time, the hot tub wasn’t heated, and the sauna caught fire while we were in the spa. The security guard at the back gate was very unfriendly, which made walking past uncomfortable. When we tried to get these issues handled at the front desk, they ignored us until we spoke loudly enough for the guests waiting in line to hear. We had no trouble checking in ourselves, unlike the person ahead of us who waited 3 hours, but the problems started as soon as we got into the room. The rooms could trigger an allergy attack.

We had a wonderful stay in room 261, which had an awesome sea view. It’s a huge resort with good amenities and is very well maintained. Since July is off season, there were only a few support staff in the restaurant, but they were courteous and kind. A place well worth staying at.
