To be fair, the house and room are beautiful, and the bed was fantastic. But for the price, the rest was absolutely unacceptable. I can’t recommend this place. There are lots of good hotels in the area, so choose one where you’re treated like a guest. It’s only available through Airbnb, and there was no service during my four-night stay. I never saw anyone there. I asked the owner about checking in early, at 12 instead of 2 pm, or at least leaving my bags. She agreed and said someone would be at reception during the day. When I arrived, no one was there, and I couldn’t reach the host. A neighbor kindly helped by calling her, but it took at least 30 minutes for her to show up. She didn’t apologize or introduce herself, and nobody helped with my bags. The whole place was empty, and I was only allowed to leave my luggage. The rooms face the very crowded, noisy beach of Praia de João Fernandes, so relaxing by the pool during the day is almost impossible. They also don’t provide mats for the sun chairs. There’s a coffee machine in the room, but its plug doesn’t fit. The shower is cold and has no pressure, making it hard to wash my hair or rinse off the soap.

Freddy gives Baia do João Eco Pousada five paw prints, and he seems to mean it. After 13 months away, he came through the front door wagging and smiling, then grabbed a treat and dashed to the dog park to play and sniff around. On the drive from Petrópolis we’d stayed at another pet-friendly Airbnb, but he hadn’t reacted anything like this there. We had a lovely time too, especially looking out over the ocean from the pool. Karl a d Rita are excellent hosts. Freddy’s ready to come back again and again.

The view alone is enough to make you feel like you’ve found paradise, and the food and drinks are outstanding. Big thanks to everyone on the Pousada team, especially Patrick, Renata and the chef. From here it’s an easy walk to Joao Fernandes and Joao Fernandinho beaches, and about 20 minutes on foot to downtown Buzios and R. das Pedras. If you’re after a paradise-like pousada in Buzios, book Baía do João Eco Pousada.

A quiet, peaceful spot where you can relax. The Argentinian concierge was very polite and helpful. The mattress could use changing, then it would be perfect.
