Búzios Beach Resort by WAM Experience

The staff were polite and friendly, and the food was good, but we were worried about our safety and had no comfort. The hotel is very old, and the photos look like they could be 20 years old. The state of repair is alarming. We shut the door firmly because of the wind, and the roof literally fell down. Someone standing underneath could have been hurt or even killed. The inside doors don’t close properly, the sofas have holes, there was mold in the bathroom, and the bedding was terrible.

The food was a real highlight. The restaurant served delicious buffet meals, different every day, and I’d give it a 10. The staff were super helpful and friendly, the rooms were spacious and very clean, and the entertainment facilities were fine, with something scheduled each day if you wanted to spend all your time there. The property is enormous and right on the beach, which is a plus. The room facilities were fine too, even though they haven’t been renovated. The pools were the problem. The water was freezing, including in the private pool at our villa. At a resort, you’d expect warm pool water, especially when the weather isn’t warm and the sea is cold. We couldn’t stay in either for more than 10 minutes, so we could only look at them instead of enjoying them. They should consider heating the pools, because it’s a shame to have such nice ones go unused. They also weren’t very clean, with lots of dry leaves and insects. Everything else was fine. I’d recommend coming in summer, but not in spring or late winter.

The staff were outstanding, attentive, and friendly, and the place itself is nice. There’s great infrastructure, though it could use better care. Some pool features were broken or under repair. The hotel should do more to explain expectations to guests, like keeping food out of the pool and putting trash in the bins. There weren’t any recycling bins, which is ridiculous given how much plastic is used. I know the hotel was recently bought by another company, and I hope the new owners renovate and make the needed changes. A few small improvements would make this a much better place.

The room was spacious, but mold had spread in the bathroom and onto the curtains. None of the outlets had a 110v option. It also felt like a resort mainly geared toward kids, since most activities and entertainment were for them. For what I paid, I was very disappointed. Check-in was chaotic and took more than 45 minutes. The breakfast, lunch, and dinner buffets were subpar, and parking was inconvenient and inadequate. Customer relations were poor until I spoke directly with the guest services director.
