Hotel Pousada Ancoradouro

The hotel has nothing especially appealing, and my experience left me with a long list of problems. The bathroom water wasn’t fully fresh, which bothered me when I showered, and there was a lot of oxidation on the taps, sinks, and plumbing. Mosquitoes kept biting us in the rooms even with the air conditioning on. The bedding was dusty, and after the room was tidied, I noticed the towels hadn’t been changed. The TV didn’t work, and my bathroom had a curtain instead of a shower enclosure, so cold air got in and water spilled across the bathroom. The management seemed unprepared. They couldn’t keep track of what had been consumed in the room or tell us the prices, and I was surprised by a 10% charge on those items. The receptionist also couldn’t provide information or help with small things. Breakfast depended on when you arrived. If you came later, it felt like you were eating leftovers, and food wasn’t replenished. The gardens were neglected, with lots of dry leaves and bare patches where there should be grass. The location wasn’t very convenient either. The way things were handled made me feel that the hotel’s management didn’t care about it. It needs a lot of investment and improvement. It’s a shame to see a hotel this size so neglected. I won’t be coming back.

Want a holiday full of headaches? Stay at Pousada Ancoradouro. I was there this week and it was the worst place I’ve ever seen. The shower never got hot, so you had to make do with a quick wash, and there are cats everywhere. Leave the door to the balcony open and you’ll likely find several of them in your bed when you get back. The bathroom water was cloudy and smelled bad. The towels weren’t properly washed, the TV and picture quality were awful, cleaning was only half done, and the toilet had no pressure. The minibar was old and dirty, and they still charge 15 reais a day to use it. There’s no restaurant, and breakfast is simple but good. The rooms have no real privacy, with curtains dividing the balconies. The reception staff paid no attention to complaints and seemed annoyed when anyone raised an issue. A real horror show. I wouldn’t stay there again, even for free.

The pool was great, and the staff were attentive and polite. Breakfast was simple but pleasant, and the kitchen staff were top notch. The place is easy to reach from the ferry, though it’s far from the center. The rooms were reasonable, but some had old, noisy air conditioners, and some showers didn’t get hot. The bathroom water was yellowish and smelled bad. The rooms also still have old-style outlets that don’t work with three-pin plugs. The games area is neglected and run-down. The damaged, dirty pool table and the very basic restaurant didn’t make you want to use either. There were also lots of cats around and some smelly areas. I’d recommend it, but there’s a lot that could be improved.

The quiet, leafy grounds are inviting, with hammocks outside, fruit trees, and birds coming to eat. There are cats around too, which I liked. The pool is nice, the rooms are clean, and the bathroom shower has strong pressure. The staff are very pleasant, and service is good. Breakfast met my expectations, and the value for money was very good. My room’s air conditioner was an old, noisy window unit, though they also have rooms with split units. I also missed having a restaurant or snack bar in the hotel. I’d give it four and a half stars, but I prefer to round up. I’m planning to come back.
