Hostel Kamorim

Great people, and a great place!

Our trip had started on a really bad note, but Dona Katia and her family turned it around. We'd driven all the way from Porto Alegre/RS after being tricked into renting a wrecked house in a far-off neighborhood, and had almost given up on finding somewhere to stay when she took us in. The inn was much better than we'd expected. Our room was clean, with fresh bedding and a clean bathroom, toilet paper, a minibar, TV, fan, and air conditioning. The fan and AC weren't new, but both did the job. It felt like an inn, not a hostel. Breakfast was fantastic, with lots to choose from and plenty of food, and Dona Katia suggested places to visit. She made us feel like family. We cooked our own meals in the kitchen area, and she lent us utensils. We also spent time with the other guests. It all made for a wonderful stay and saved our New Year's Eve. After such a rough end to the year, the experience left me feeling grateful and hopeful. The location is excellent, breakfast is generous, and the price is very fair. Thank you, Sra. Katia, your family, and the other guests. I'll definitely come back to Arraial, especially to give you all a hug!

We stayed only one day, and Dona Cátia was very attentive, explaining several things about the boat tour. The hostel is well placed for the piers where the tour boats leave from, though finding the right boat and guide there is confusing and it's crowded, so get there a little early. There were five of us sharing one room, which worked out well, although the facilities were simple. In the morning, we had a problem with water backing up when the toilet was flushed. We left our bags at reception while we went on the tour, and Dona Cátia made a bathroom available for anyone who wanted to shower or change afterward. There is no parking at the hostel, and finding a space on the busy street near one of its entrances is difficult. We eventually found one right in front of the hostel.

Such wonderful service, and everything was clean and cozy. The host was so attentive, she reminded me of someone from Minas Gerais. I loved it and will keep coming back!
