Mediterrane Hotel by Castelo Itaipava

Our stay was a terrible experience, despite what I don’t understand about the hotel’s 4.3 out of 5 rating. The rooms smelled bad and were full of mold. They showed us two other rooms, but those smelled and had mold as well. Breakfast was included from 7:00 to 10:00, but when we came down at 9:30, the hot food was gone and hadn’t been replenished. We asked for a refund for the remaining two nights, but reception said it wasn’t possible there and that we had to request it online through the hotel website. They said nobody in charge was at the hotel.

Breakfast was included in my daily rate and was supposed to run until 10:30, according to what I was told at check-in. When I went down at 9:30, there was nothing left and nothing being replenished. The rooms were dirty and full of mold. After I complained, reception suggested moving me, but I checked three other rooms and found mold in all of them. They refused a refund and said the problems could be fixed. I asked to speak to management, but reception said no manager was on duty and I’d have to make any refund inquiry online. After just one night, I woke up with a sore throat and intense coughing. This was a horrible, disgusting experience, not what I wanted from my vacation.

The food and views were great, and it’s a nice hotel in a great location. There was a drainage problem in my shower. I reported it to reception on WhatsApp, but it wasn’t fixed during my short stay.

The rooms are fantastic, always clean and organized, and the service is great. The hotel is very close to Prainha beach, about 15 minutes from downtown Arraial do Cabo.
