The massages were a lovely way for my wife and me to unwind and take care of ourselves. The therapist was gentle and suggested the right massage for the knots that bother us in everyday life. We also enjoyed the good selection of wine at fair prices. It’s not a budget trip, but if you’re looking for somewhere pleasant near São Paulo, it’s worth the expense. The staff were attentive and personable, and the service from arrival through breakfast, lunch, and dinner made us want to return. My wife and I were celebrating 17 years of marriage, and the surprise they arranged in our chalet meant a lot. Thank you to the Canto do Irerê team. Friends had recommended Canto do Irerê, and I’m glad we went. It was a real discovery to find somewhere close to São Paulo where you can rest, listen to birds, and stay in comfortable, charming chalets. There aren’t many chalets, which makes for a more personal stay. As the website says, children aren’t accepted, since the place is intended for couples or people traveling alone who want peace. The food is created by well-known chefs, with a current menu. One day, the smell of pot roast from the kitchen was mouthwatering, though it was the employees’ meal and wasn’t available to us. The fresh air and the scent of pine trees damp with winter frost made mornings feel calm. The small trail was lovely, especially seeing the sun through the trees. I was there in winter, so I didn’t get to see the famous Irerê the place is named after.

The staff were so friendly and helpful, and the service was outstanding. The food was great too, and the COVID precautions they had in place made the experience even better.

The part that upset us most was seeing hungry cats around the property and feeling that the hotel was avoiding responsibility for them. We asked the manager about the cats, and he said they were “wild,” lived in the woods, and weren’t fed. They seemed frightened of people and poorly cared for. At checkout, we spoke to reception and suggested the hotel arrange rescue, spaying, and adoption. There was no real response. After getting back to SP, I looked for ways to help. I contacted a local NGO whose owner does the hotel’s laundry, but so far nothing concrete has happened. I even offered to pay for spaying and found a professional willing to come capture the cats for a very small fee, less than one night in any chalet there. Since 21/11, I’ve tried to get the people involved to take this seriously, but they’ve refused to help or spend anything. They just want to get rid of the cats. The hotel says it isn’t Pet Friendly, but this is a matter of public health and basic humanity. To me, they seem “money friendly.” I respect people who don’t like animals, but not people who neglect them, hide the problem, and deny responsibility. We stayed three days. The hotel is surrounded by beautiful nature, and our room was spacious and comfortable, with a shower that made for a relaxing bath. Staff were courteous, breakfast was generous, and the food was good quality. On the downside, the bathroom had no door, just a curtain with several mold spots. The shower had no enclosure, so water spread across the wooden bathroom floor. Food was expensive, and the portions sometimes felt small. The tiny gym needed improvements and maintenance. The pool was heated, but on our last day it was dirty and full of leaves and dust.

The whole team took such good care of us, and everything was looked after so well. Our chalet was beautifully decorated, and the food was wonderful. One of the loveliest places I’ve stayed recently, a nature retreat where you can rest and recharge from the daily rush. Congratulations ♥️
