Vila Guará

The restaurant is lovely and airy, and the French woman running it was lovely too. There are lots of options, though vegan choices are limited. For instance, you can get a homemade bread sandwich with Maniok fries for 25$R, or a mixed salad with plenty of Cashews for 35$R. It’s not cheap, but the portions are reasonable and the quality is good.

The photos online make the place look charming, but I found it a tourist trap and very pricey for what it offers. There’s no AC in the open air rooms, and although the hotel advertises Wi-Fi, it only works in common areas, not the chalets. We had a frog in our toilet, and there were open gaps in the wooden floors and ceilings where bugs and reptiles could get in, including biting ants, spiders, lots of mosquitoes, lizards, and frogs. I left covered in bites and feeling ill, with body aches, chills, a headache, and nausea. I believe I got dengue fever from mosquitoes. The nearest major hospital is five hours away.

They own the only kite center and won’t let tenants offer kite storage to people who aren’t staying in Vila Guará. Also, I’ve had no response from them for over a week.

The food was amazing and the staff were great.
