We paid for a room for 10 days while our apartment was being renovated, so we could use it as needed. On day 8, we returned to check whether we'd left anything behind, but they wouldn't let us into the room because they'd rented it to someone else. They said they "thought" we'd checked out, but we hadn't. We'd paid for all 10 days and had the right to keep the room for that period.
