Pousada Menezes

I stayed four days and didn’t find the problems mentioned in earlier comments. The room was clean and smelled fresh, including the towels and bedding, and the air conditioning got very cold. I did miss having a small table for snacks, like somewhere to make juice and have cake. They offered me a place to cook if I needed it. I didn’t, but when I asked for black coffee at night, they made it right away and didn’t charge me. My room was near the stairs and had two double beds and a bunk bed. The bathroom was inside, with the sink outside near the door, and there was a large fridge in the room. Breakfast was simple and included in the price, which was very affordable. Management helped with whatever I needed, the guests in the other rooms were quiet, and I made some new friends. It’s very close to the waterfront. The swimming spot was about 500 meters away, an easy walk. There weren’t many people there, the water was very clean, and there was a huge sand dune. If you’re driving, the garage can fit around six or seven cars if everyone parks carefully. There’s a drugstore on the corner, two fruit shops close by, a bakery about 80 meters away, a butcher on the corner, and several places serving ready-made lunch about 20 meters away. There were also pastel, sandwiches, a car and motorcycle parts shop, and other things nearby. Grandma’s cake cost 15 dollars and was a big piece. Roast chicken was 50 dollars, a portion of rice 7 dollars, bread 0.50 dollars, and six liters of water 15 dollars, which I put in the fridge, haha. A lunchbox meal at a nearby restaurant was 20 dollars, any dish. I might come back and add more if I remember anything.

The room smelled bad and had no TV or breakfast. The old bed had exposed springs that dug into my back. I paid 240.00 and couldn’t stay for even a full day. I arrived at 2 pm and was looking for somewhere else by 7. The service was indifferent. A horrible experience.

I travel a lot and know almost every state in the Northeast. I usually look for good value, but I made a bad choice with Pousada Meneses (Ex Pousada Du Jordano). The price is a little lower than the usual standard in Barreirinhas, but what they provide isn’t worth what they charge. The breakfast was awful, far worse than merely simple. The bed and bath linens were very poor quality. There was hardly any water pressure in the shower, so taking a hot shower at night or early in the morning, when the water is a little colder, wasn’t really possible. At least in the upstairs rooms, the water was either far too hot or far too cold. Cars and motorcycles on the street, most with open exhausts, start making noise at 6 am and will wake you unless you’re a very heavy sleeper. The worst part was one owner’s lack of respect and tact with guests. The place is run by amateurs. The man does seem to try to be a good host, but the woman is completely unprepared and doesn’t know how to deal with the public. Imagine someone who can’t talk things through or resolve a situation, that’s about it. They agreed on one price and then refused to honor it. I still have all the conversations to prove it. I’ve seen the saying “the fish dies by its own mouth” apply here: read the establishment’s response and you’ll see what I mean, with its personal attacks and lies. I’d suggest looking for somewhere run a little more professionally, since there’s a good chance you’ll have problems here.

The four women at reception were wonderful throughout, from my first WhatsApp message right through the stay. They were thoughtful about guests and cleanliness, and I felt completely at ease. Well done!
