The bathroom was awful, with no shower enclosure, and taking a shower there made me feel gross. It was right beside the shared living room, where the owner watched TV loudly at night. The kitchen barely had any utensils, and the few there were sat dirty in a cupboard with old rice bags. Everything in the house smelled of grease and felt sticky. I had to buy my own cutlery, and I couldn't last more than four days there. I needed somewhere to stay during my college internship, so I asked the owner if there were many students. He said there were, but the residents I met were all adult men preparing for the federal police exam, none of them students. He told me I could feel “at ease.” That wasn't what I had expected, but I went along with it. I paid half the monthly rate to reserve the room, then he asked for the rest before I'd even seen it. That part was fine. When he showed me the room, he said there hadn't been time to clean it and that I'd have to do it myself if I wanted to stay. I swept, and he brought me a squeegee and bucket “as a favor.” Then I noticed there were no power outlets. After a lot of confusion because the owner was so disorganized, I got an extension cord to reach an outlet outside the room. When I tried to use my computer, there was no Wi-Fi. He made a scene and blamed NET for not coming to fix the router, though it was sitting there dusty and neglected. I eventually moved into a room inside the house. I'd paid R$1000 for the month, and asked if he could charge me just for the four days and return the rest. He agreed to refund only half, and was very irritated about it. I paid 500 reais to spend four days in a dump. It was a terrible experience.

The place itself is pretty, and my room was clean. There was no fan in the heat, but thankfully a good breeze came through the window. The balcony was cozy and nice to sit on. The bathroom, though, made me feel sick. The sink drain was full of beard hairs and grease, the sink was greasy, there was slime in the corners, urine around the toilet rim, and a moldy cabinet full of old soap. Toilet paper was on the floor, and the bin looked like it hadn't been changed for days. I couldn't bring myself to shower or even touch the toilet. The fridge was dirty too, and there was food in the sink drain. I thought the owner cleaned every day. The place has potential, but the bathroom really unsettled me.

The owner was so friendly, and I found the room comfortable. The shared areas were comfortable too, and the price was great. The decor is chaotic but charming. I absolutely loved it.

The hostel is in a convenient spot, with bakeries and markets close enough to walk to, and the price is affordable. The common areas are monitored by cameras. Rooms were clean and organized when handed over, and the bathroom stays clean and has hot water. The decor really catches your eye, with a rock theme and lots of notable artists. There's even a jabuticaba tree on the property, which is really cool. The owner is a really nice person.

I paid R$70, and by Sunday at 11 the owner was calling to ask me to Pix him, even though I'd already paid and my belongings were still there. The whole stay felt depressing. The place was in terrible condition, there wasn't even drinking water, and he first showed me a shared room with the bathroom in the hall. When I said I wouldn't stay, he offered a “suite” on the third floor. It was a mattress on a bed with no legs, just old foam, with no sheets or towels. It was all dirty, with dust on the floor. I asked for a fan, and he put one on some kind of thing that wasn't even a stool. I felt almost like a homeless person. I had merchandise in my car and was exhausted from the trip, so I didn't leave; I also asked to stay Sunday. On the phone he'd quoted R$50 and said there was parking when I asked. Once I arrived, he raised the price to R$70 before I'd even gone inside. It was only because I was so tired that I didn't turn around and leave. This is far from a hostel, more like the end of the world in BH. I don't recommend it and would never dare return. BH has lots of much better options at this price. Sr . Reinaldo is also a liar and dishonest. Instead of accepting criticism and improving his dump, he makes up stories. I was never a hostel owner, and if I were, I'd treat guests well. I don't even live in MG. Be careful, he's crazy. Another guest said items had gone missing at his hostel. The health inspection should visit, because I'm sure this place has no operating permit. Those filthy mattresses could cause a fire any time. Shut this rat hole down, people of BH, urgently!
