Hotel Oscar Gold Savassi

Great.

I had a horrible experience here. I stayed for four nights, and things got worse each day. I was on the fourth floor, but one of the elevators wouldn't stop there. The doorman's suggestion was to take it to the fifth floor and walk back down the stairs. The room wasn't cleaned at all. I left the key at reception every day, but they didn't even remove the paper bag from a snack I'd ordered the night before. The internet was already slow and unstable from day one. On the last two days it went down with no idea when it would return. I complained and followed up, but saw no sign of anyone doing anything about it. The only place with a connection was reception, and the hotel's suggestion was, “stay here in reception.” I'm here for work and have important meetings. Apparently reception is the best place for that! The garage gate doesn't open automatically, and there's no dedicated attendant. I had to get out of the car to call a receptionist, who then had to come open the gate by hand. The garage costs 45 reais per night, paid separately. And about that elevator, it smelled horribly of sewage or garbage. I imagine the smell comes from an open area beside the hotel. That area also has an impressive rat breeding ground, with rats coming out for a stroll at night. Lovely!! I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE!!!

After getting back late from an event, we found the room hadn’t been cleaned. The staff said we needed to tell reception if we wanted it tidied. In all my years of work travel around Brazil, I’ve never had to request cleaning; usually you only need to ask if you don’t want anyone to come in. The nightly rate doesn’t feel worthwhile, and the location isn’t especially good either. There are better value options nearby.

The website made the place look great, but the room was a huge letdown. It was dirty, the bed had just one sheet and the mattress had no cover. The pillows smelled bad, and the quilt looked used and had been tossed carelessly into the closet. Towels were torn and had hair stuck to them, and the curtain was filthy. Water from the shower kept getting weaker. There was an open hole where the minibar should go, which could let animals in. No internet, and the phone was just decoration since its cord was missing, so we couldn’t call reception. We had a terrible stay, cancelled and moved to another hotel.
