Lá em Casa Hostel Pousada

The hostel itself is comfortable, with enough bathrooms for everyone, a pleasant common area, and a pretty sweet book collection. The kitchen is well stocked, including a nice coffee machine, a really nice stove, and a spice rack, though there isn't a free food shelf. Breakfast costs extra, but it's very cheap. The staff and other guests were wonderful, and I was glad I stayed while the owner was out of town and got to spend time with them. I would love to recommend the place, but I can't because the owner gives off really bad vibes. In the few interactions we had, I felt awful. He seems like a very negative person, and I wonder if he's going through a dark time. I hope he gets better or finds work that suits his aggressive, hateful personality. He needs to leave this business; he's terrible with people. I saw him spray a homeless woman with a garden hose because she was going through the trash and making a mess on the sidewalk. When she yelled at him through the gate, he grabbed a broom handle and nearly pulled the gate door off its hinges trying to get to her. I think he would have beaten her with it if someone had opened the gate. I didn't speak Portuguese fluently, so at first I didn't really understand what was happening. If I had, I would have checked out right away, given her dry clothes, and hugged her. I kept away from the violence because my loved ones would kill me if I got hurt trying to intervene in a fight.
