I booked two months ahead, but when we arrived they wouldn’t let us into the hostel because no room was available. Then they tried to scam us by refunding only half our money. Don’t go there!

Really nice 👍

I went to BH for treatment and stayed at this hostel for 10 days. I went through three awful situations there. First, I faced religious intolerance from a long-term guest who was a religious fanatic. The second situation involved an employee. I had a bout of diverticulitis, which causes intense pain. By bad luck, my phone display broke on Saturday, 18/10. I became unwell on Sunday, 19/10, and with my phone broken I had no way to contact my family. Another guest called an Uber so I could go to a UPA. When I got back, I heard this employee say in front of several guests that this wasn’t a rehab clinic, implying I was hungover. He was upset about being woken to tell my daughter which UPA I’d gone to, since the other employees didn’t know BH. He said the hostel had no obligation to call an Uber or give information to my family, and suggested I was at a hostel to drink behind my family’s back. For context, I live in SP. He ignored me over the following days and never apologized. I felt bad around him. The only wonderful employees were Amanda and Sadraque. They were attentive, kind, and helpful. They told the owners what had happened and that I wanted to speak with them about the employee, but I heard nothing back. On Wednesday, 22/10, one of the owners arrived and ignored me, walking past without even saying good morning. He was rude and not at all prepared to run a hostel or anything similar. The only time he spoke to me was Thursday night, when he said, “Renata, speak more quietly because you’re bothering me in my room.” Two minutes later, a guest who’s friends with the owners arrived apparently drunk and caused a scene with someone in the same room. There was shouting and confusion, but the owner didn’t complain. I’m 54. I faced religious intolerance, insult, and defamation, and the owners ignored me completely. I booked through Booking, but my complaint was cut in half. A Booking agent was extremely kind, advised me, and said they would contact the hostel owners and demand an explanation for everything I’d suffered there. I only stayed in a hostel because the treatment I’d come to BH for was very expensive, and I really couldn’t afford a hotel or guesthouse. The only good thing about this hostel is AMANDA E O SADRAQUE. They’re good people, excellent professionals, polite and kind, and they work hard. I returned to SP on Friday, and I hope Amanda and Sadraque find a better place to work. There were only four employees trying to do everything, and they couldn’t keep up. They should have a cleaner for the heavier work. My room went three days without being cleaned. I spoke to Sadraque, and he left it spotless.

This Savassi hostel is always full but relies on volunteers who are visibly overloaded, with no staff. You book a bed and find someone sleeping in it. Everything is dirty and full of mosquitoes. It’s a cheap deal that ends up costing you, so it just isn’t worth it. The location is good, though, and they could improve things.

The place looked nothing like the photos they sent me. It felt really strange, people smoked all the time, and the rooms were dirty. I was traveling with my tour group and children on the way to Bahia. I wouldn’t recommend it to my worst enemy!
