ibis Blumenau

Bruna was so kind and helpful while I was getting settled in the apartment, even carrying my luggage all the way there. I wasn’t staying at the hotel, but the staff helped me despite speaking very little English. Bruna used Google Translate and the bit of English she knew to translate my conversation with my local host. She’s an angel 😇

The food bar is pricey and doesn’t offer much, though there are good places to eat nearby. The Wi-Fi is okay for basic use, but I wouldn’t count on it for video. The location is good, and the rooms are clean, comfortable, and practical. Each has its own hot and cold AC, and the price makes this a good choice for business or a winter trip. There’s no pool or game room. One small annoyance: for some reason, the bathroom door doesn’t lock.

I was charged twice on my credit card, with no explanation. I emailed the hotel, but the reply was in Portuguese and didn’t answer my question. That made me lower my rating by another star on 20-5. I spent eight nights here, and it wasn’t a pleasant stay. The rooms are dated, and both of the rooms I stayed in smelled bad. I had to run the AC to clear the smell. Opening the window didn’t help since I was on the first floor above a dirty car park. The AC worked, but sounded like a jet engine, so sleeping with it on was harder than sleeping on a plane. The furniture needs updating too. The safe didn’t work in my first room, and my second room didn’t have one. I had to change rooms when the toilet flush broke, as there was no technical service available. One day my room wasn’t cleaned, and I had to call reception for towels. The keys often failed or fell apart, so I got into the habit of checking mine whenever I came back from work. Breakfast was fine, but the cereal, granola, and bread choices were limited. The rolls were hard and not fresh, while the fruit was fresh and nice. The staff are friendly. Some act as if they understand English but don’t, while others do speak it.

The room was really cold. Also, every time I came back after going out, the same key wouldn’t work, so I had to get it redone at the lobby.
