Pousada Vila Rica

A simple, modest place that’s good if you’re trying to save money. We were welcomed warmly, the host was very receptive, and breakfast was great.

It's well located and a good value for anyone looking to save on lodging. Everything is very basic.

We booked for Carnival, reserving two rooms for three people each, but the place they put us in was a tiny cell-like room. The old single beds were broken, so we chose to sleep on the floor. It cost 400 reais for one night, yet there was no space for anything and no minibar or proper facilities. The WhatsApp pictures and description they sent were misleading. A complete disappointment.

The location is a real plus, but there are too many things that need fixing. The bathroom was uncomfortable and unattractive, and the single beds were bunk beds with no ladder for getting to the top. The wiring was in bad shape too: whenever we plugged in an appliance, the lights flickered. The owner blamed a citywide issue, but we moved to another place a few blocks away and had no electrical problems there. It might suit someone on a tight budget, though I think the price should be lower. For the same or nearly the same money, you can find better options.
