The breakfast was good, but it seemed tightly rationed, with nothing brought out again once it ran out. The owner was friendly, and I saw a much larger room with a roomy bathroom where friends of ours stayed for the same price my husband paid. Our own room was tiny, though, with nowhere for our bags except a small table and a chair. The double bed was against the wall, and the bathroom was so close that one step from the bed took you right in. Its sink was very low and small, while the little mirror was mounted extremely high. The room was very dark, with just one ceiling light above the bed, and it was hard to see the small refrigerator in its corner. We couldn’t open the window curtain because it faced the street. The owner had said there was parking at the inn, but the cars were left on the street. I have no desire to stay here again or recommend it.

We paid more than 25,000 for our stay with a group of 36, and were still going to stay one more day. The owner added extra charges, including 440 in a return payment, but my bank temporarily blocked my transactions for security reasons. I showed Carlos the bank email explaining why I couldn’t pay at that moment. I went to the beach and had no signal; when I got back, while we were getting ready to shower with three other guests, Carlos came banging on the door demanding his money. He was completely worked up, and my clients were frightened. He called me a snake and a liar, attacked my character, and told my business partner to be careful with me, even though he was the one lying. He showed no emotional control and was misogynistic and racist. It felt like he wanted our money, not our presence. He treats people differently, and in my experience, if you’re white, foreign, and wealthy you’ll be treated well, otherwise stay away. The place is far from everything, and our stay was a total disappointment. The person presented to us as polite and kind turned out to be an act that disappeared on the second day.

The inn is in a handy spot, facing the beach, about 200 meters from Lagoa Vermelha, which is great for children, and with a quiet street for parking. Pontal beach in Arraial do Cabo is practically next door; Praia do Forte is around a 10-minute drive, and Arraial is about five minutes away. There’s also a buggy tour company on the same street, with two-hour trips for up to four people per car, great photos, and reasonable prices. We spent a January weekend at Praia do Foguete with family, and Mr. Carlos was very attentive and helpful. Breakfast was generous and wonderful, and there’s a pool for anyone wary of the local beach waves, though the beach itself is beautiful. We enjoyed the area and would recommend both Praia do Foguete and Casa do Telhado Verde for a quieter family stay in the Lakes Region.
