I wouldn’t recommend it. The hostel needs a proper clean, with leaves and debris left in corners, and the route there from the beach is dark and smells bad, with trash scattered along the way. It’s also far from the beach. The double room was so tiny my husband and I could barely fit. Breakfast was basic, with very few choices. My stay really let down my trip to Morro de São Paulo. I later realized other hotels and inns offered much better amenities for the same price.

The only part of the stay I liked was breakfast. I paid for it, and it was varied and tasty, so that felt worth it. The hostel itself was filthy, and I hated being there. The room was tiny for three people, really only big enough for two at most. The bathroom was gross: the flush was broken, there was only a shower curtain instead of a stall and it didn’t keep the water in, so the whole bathroom got soaked. Even with shoes on and opening the tap with a towel, the shower gave me shocks. I thought a lot about how to rate it because the owner was very friendly and attentive, but the hostel needs to improve its facilities.

I did sleep the first night because I was exhausted from the trip, and the second because I’d spent so long at the beach. After that, I couldn’t sleep at all. I stayed for a week in a private room with a double bed, but the mattress was more like padding, and I could feel the wood against my back. The rooms don’t look like the photos, and there was some negative energy from a few of the people there. I tried to be respectful and keep things positive, but I really wouldn’t recommend this place. Being comfortable where you’re staying matters so much on vacation, and paying for a place that isn’t worth it feels awful. I thought hard about whether to write this, but I wouldn’t want anyone else to go through the same thing. Breakfast was good, with great coffee and fresh, ripe fruit cut to order. Some days, though, it felt like they didn’t put much effort in because there were only two guests at the hostel. Masaru and Nicolás were the bright spot. They treated me so well, and meeting those two on the trip made the stay less bad.

We had to cancel our reservation because of very serious health reasons. The hotel refused to give us a full cancellation even though it was still two weeks before the trip, and the reservations were full, so it seemed clear they weren’t losing money. I felt I was being denied money that was rightfully mine. Think carefully before booking. Reply edit: The right is yours, friend.
