I was nervous after reading the reviews here, even though we were only staying one night. But once we arrived, I wondered if we were lucky or if some of the comments had been overly negative and out of touch with reality. The hotel is older and laid out a bit like a condo. Our room felt like a one-bedroom apartment, with a large living room, TV, and bathroom. Everything was clean, and nothing bothered me. The gas-heated shower was nice and hot, the bed was comfortable, and the old minibar still cooled properly. There was a balcony off the living room with a genuinely beautiful view. Birds sang nearby, which made the place feel restful and peaceful. The gardens were well kept, and the grounds were attractive overall, though some renovations would help. The internet only worked at reception and was just so-so. The website already warns about this and says cell service may be unavailable, but our phones actually had a strong signal. Breakfast was okay, with the essentials, and the pool was fine for cooling off in the heat. The hotel is far from the center of Capivari, but that didn’t bother us since we had a car and wanted peace and a view. Part of the road is a little rough, but it was manageable. The street isn’t lit at night, so use high beams and drive slowly. It’s about 17 minutes from the center. For what we paid, I think it was good value. I’d suggest that the hotel sell water, soft drinks, and beer, because if you don’t bring any, there’s nowhere to buy them nearby.
