Really good.

Loved it!

The biggest issue for me was how the owner treated guests. At breakfast she sat near the entrance asking questions, then walked between the tables with a clipboard, watching everyone. It made us uncomfortable. She also questioned another guest in front of everyone about speaking to a fellow guest instead of a hotel employee. That was awkward and unpleasant. The hotel is old and has some problems. It wasn't terrible, but it felt expensive for what it offered. I've stayed in much better hotels for similar prices. I was also charged R$60 just for an introduction to an agency for a trip to Ilha do Cardoso. The hotel says it provides a voucher for the tour, priced at R$70 per person, while the agency charged R$50. Since there were three of us, that was R$60 just for the referral. At the pool, covering a water outlet with your hands makes water come out of a pipe above, like a small fountain. When the kids started playing with it, the owner shouted from a room that they couldn't, because the water from above could fall and damage the pump. That's fine, but there was no sign or guidance. How were we supposed to know? Good morning. I couldn't post a reply to the owner's response, so I'm editing this review. The rude way she answers criticism really shows the behavior I was describing. Such a shame.

At R$580 a night, I expected better care of the basics. Our room had a lot of dust, and the pillows smelled strongly of mildew, which made it hard to rest. The minibar was switched off when we arrived, and although the towels were clean, they looked heavily worn. Cananeia may be a more rustic destination, with less focus on mass tourism, and the hotel itself is quite old and needs updating. But the price was the main problem: the condition of the room, fresh linens, and careful maintenance should match that sort of nightly rate. It didn't feel like what we received was fair for what we paid.
