We chose this place because it looked amazing on booking.com, but after arriving with my young family three nights ago, we left disappointed. The employee we dealt with was extremely rude, uncaring, and seemed lazy, as if she didn’t want to work. We asked to see rooms, but she only showed us pictures on a website. In other parts of Brazil, we’d been walked around and shown several rooms. Here, after some difficulty, she reluctantly offered to show one and kept telling us to look at other photos online. We were already at the hotel, and the customer service was the worst I’ve experienced anywhere. That’s a shame, since service in Brazil is usually at a very high standard. I wouldn’t recommend staying here while the service is this appalling. There were lots of insects, too. Thankfully, we found Pousada Quintal Da Lua, where we ended up extending our stay, and the service and facilities were incredible.

The room was made up every other day, which we found absurd. We could ask for daily cleaning, but that shouldn’t have been something we had to request. We accepted the arrangement and made the bed and changed the rubbish ourselves on the days without automatic cleaning. We also asked whether checkout could be extended to 2 p.m. if there wasn’t another booking that day. The reply was rather sarcastic: “Of course, the late checkout fee is 150.00.” The inn is cozy, clean, and well located, but the breakfast was just okay, with little variety. We’d hoped for something more homemade and special. Service was disappointing as well. Val only gave basic information about tours, and since she handled everything at the inn, we expected more suggestions and tips. It’s a shame, because the place is beautiful, but poor service made the stay merely okay, despite the photos and nightly price. We loved Capitólio, but will stay somewhere else next time.

We won’t return, and I can’t recommend this place. At checkout, we had a very negative experience over a stand-up paddleboard paddle that was available to guests without a formal checkout system or liability form. It went missing, and we immediately and voluntarily told the management and tried to sort it out. Later, in the shared pool area, the owner or an employee confronted us in an extremely rude and indiscreet way, in front of other guests, scolding and arguing with us. We had said from the start that we would cover the loss, but were still treated with hostility and repeated accusations. They implied we were lying, saying the paddle “doesn’t sink” and that losing it was entirely our fault. That doesn’t match what happened: it sank when it touched the water. We saw the same kind of response in another situation, when a guest reported a bathroom problem and was told, “it wasn’t like that before.” They initially demanded nearly R$ 1,000, claiming it was a professional imported carbon-fiber paddle, but showed no brand, model, receipt, or estimate to support that amount. We were in a hurry to leave, so we paid R$ 280 via Pix, even though equivalent paddles are available on the market for less. I’m posting this as a warning. For lodging, the Consumer Defense Code provides a right to clear, advance information about terms and charges (art. 6, III), rules out imposing conditions that weren’t disclosed beforehand (art. 46), and prohibits demands for a clearly excessive advantage (art. 39, V). Under the Civil Code, compensation should be limited to the actual extent of the damage (art. 944) and must not result in unjust enrichment (art. 884).

I booked five rooms at the inn, but the reservation was changed. The inn simply wouldn’t answer phone calls or respond on WhatsApp. I canceled the bookings, and they took a long time to refund the payment, even though the cancellation was within the permitted period.

We loved the inn. Everything was very clean, and the decor was in great taste. The view is lovely, and the location feels peaceful and quiet. Breakfast was tasty, with a nice range of options. They provide kayaks and stand-up paddleboards for guests, which was a real plus for us. The owner was polite and friendly.
