Pousada Vila das Águas

Andrea, the massage therapist who works at the pousada, deserves a special mention. Every second was worth it, and I highly recommend her. The location is excellent, but for me that's the only real positive here. The rooms felt like tiny, stuffy rentals, with no bathroom window, rather than the welcoming pousada we expected. There were only a few employees, and once they finished serving breakfast and cleaning rooms in the morning, they all left until the next morning. After the bare minimum early in the day, there was no help or attention for guests. It also felt as if nobody was managing the place, which is a shame because it has a lot of potential. Breakfast was awkward too. We had to mark our choices on a laminated menu, and my boyfriend and I felt boxed in by the limited selection. Several of the few options were unavailable, and what we did get was unfortunately poor quality. The scrambled egg looked like it had been scraped from the bottom of the pan.

A really disappointing stay. I first came to the pousada in April 2025 and spent a few days in the Jasmin and Girassol Master rooms. At 350 reais a night, it was a pleasant stay. The place was simple but met our needs, especially since some friends were staying at the pousada next door. I came back as a couple in January 2026, paying 650 a night for high season, and the experience was so frustrating that I need to lay out what happened. It seemed the pousada had fallen apart between April and January, with no upkeep and terrible management. The room had no toilet paper, the shower area had a hole in the bathroom floor, the liquid soap bottle was empty and there were no toiletries. The towels were stiff and frayed, and one had a huge tear. The room walls were covered in dirty handprints, the bathroom was moldy, and I spotted three silverfish on the wall. The window wouldn't lock either. At 5 pm I messaged the owner or manager about the toilet paper and torn towels. He never replied. The next day around 9:30, while my boyfriend was giving an important work presentation online from the little veranda, camera on and speaking, an employee came over holding two towels. I quietly thanked her, but she didn't hand them over. She loudly asked me to show her the torn one, so I went inside and brought it out. Then she kept talking loudly and disturbing my boyfriend, asking to see the other one too. It was unbelievably rude and showed she wasn't prepared to deal with guests. To be fair, another employee who served breakfast was kind and attentive. There were cockroaches on both trips. During my first stay in 2025, one huge cockroach nearly climbed on me while I was sitting at the veranda table having wine. I understood that could happen in an open area and didn't blame the pousada. But on the first night in 2026, another appeared in the bathroom sink. I've been to Caraíva three times and stayed at six different pousadas, and this is the only one where I've had to deal with cockroaches. I don't think it was just chance anymore. I wish I'd taken photos of the towel and silverfish, but only thought of it afterward.

I'm staying here right now and had to leave a review. Breakfast is made fresh to order and has to be some of the best I've seen. They serve it on the veranda, which is a lovely touch, and everything was delicious, fresh, and nicely presented. The team is attentive and the service is excellent. Such a good way to start the day, I definitely recommend it!

The room was spacious, with a great bed and really nice sheets, but I felt the cleaning could be better. The service wasn't good either. You can barely find an employee when you need one, and the pousada feels like a ghost place. Breakfast is ordered from a menu at the table, but it takes a while to arrive and the portions aren't big. Even when it was time to pay, it was hard to find someone. One morning it was raining heavily and our breakfast table was right under a leak. I wouldn't recommend it.
