Pousada do Lajes

Awesome.

There weren’t vegan options, but I was warmly accommodated when I asked for couscous without cheese. They also took the care to make dishes without any animal-derived ingredients. My two friends and I stayed here, and I’m very grateful.

The place was surprisingly quiet, and the service was excellent. My wife and I had to leave early, so we let them know, and they made us breakfast at 5:00 a.m. The usual breakfast hours are 7:00 to 9:00, so that was something I’d never seen before. Thank you, everyone. When I’m in Carolina, I’ll stay at pousada do Lajes again.

The rooms were okay and had air conditioning, and there was a pool area with a barbecue. The staff were attentive. Breakfast was disappointing, though. During the rainy season there’s no spot protected from flies and mosquitoes. They had a cabinet to keep the food inside, but flies still got in and landed on it until a staff member came to wipe them away with a cloth. Not hygienic.
