Bela Curitiba Hostel

The owner is clearly always looking for ways to improve this really well-equipped hostel, and I've had a great experience. It's about 30 minutes from the city center on foot and around 6 minutes from the botanical garden. There are plenty of vegan options around town, too. I know where I'm staying next time I return to Curitiba, highly recommend.

We stayed four nights and had a really good time. Bela Curitiba hostel is close to lots of attractions, making it easy to get around and see different places. The rooms were clean and well organized, and the host and staff were friendly and accommodating. Thanks Elisa , Fabricio and Paola.

We stayed in a private room while in town for the festival. The service was always attentive and very good, and we were welcomed by the adorable bel 🐶. The room had several issues, though. The TV wouldn't turn on at first, and once it did, it wouldn't load. The sink made a noise and sprayed a second stream off to the side. The shower wouldn't get hot, and opening the door right after a shower set off the fire alarm. There was no bedside lamp, only the main light, and no curtain on the door to block the daylight, so resting during the day was impossible. Ventilation was poor, and the windows faced the garage.

The hostel was beautifully decorated, with an outdoor area where I could relax and read. The owner and her husband were polite and warm, and the fridge-label system for identifying guests' food seemed to work well. Guests should follow the rules and be considerate; if someone ignores them, that's on that person, not the property. I also appreciated the staff's friendly, helpful attitudes. Still, I can't give it a ten. Volunteers need to knock, ask permission, and wait before entering a room, whether they're there to clean or answer another guest's request. They should also make sure women in the room are ready for a man to enter. Once, a young man came in to help another woman while I was at the sink wearing only a towel after a shower, and I felt uncomfortable when he saw me. Another morning, a different young man came in to clean while I was about to take off my pajamas, and he almost saw me undressed. Both men were very friendly, helpful, cheerful, and courteous, but perhaps they hadn't been given this guidance. A few small maintenance fixes would help too: the bathroom glass door is stiff to slide, and the flush button is missing, leaving only a pin that hurts your finger. It would also be great to have a quiet-hours rule for parties after, say, 23:59. It was embarrassing to get out of bed in my pajamas to ask loud guests to keep the time in mind, especially after our first request had been ignored. The owner stepped in and the noise stopped, thankfully, so I changed my intended ten to an eight. Thanks for the stay. I plan to return on my next trip to Curitiba.
