Hotel Piazza Batel

A good place, and the room was excellent.

Nothing fancy, but it was okay.

The breakfast was excellent, and so was the bed. I also liked the location, in the best neighborhood in the city. There was no street noise, and the other guests were quiet the day I stayed, so the room was very peaceful. The owner was extremely friendly, but the place doesn’t really live up to being called a “hotel.” It felt more like a very basic hostel or boarding house. There’s no reception, and you keep the key to the front door. Breakfast starts very late, after 8 a.m., which is a problem if you get up early. The cupboards were falling apart, the TV was an old tube set, and there was no air conditioning. The walls were thin enough that I could hear someone in the next room peeing. The bathroom was cramped, almost part of the bedroom, and very damp even with the windows open. I’d be worried about catching pneumonia if I stayed there in cold weather.

It’s a simple, cozy place, and the staff are friendly and do their best to meet your needs. My room was clean and tidy, with no musty smell. The bed was soft, the blankets were clean, and there was a small TV, mirror, little table, fan, clothes rack, and WiFi. The bathroom was clean, spacious, and looked new. Breakfast is optional, but tasty and worth booking. A minibar would have made it perfect, but for the price, the quality is better than I expected. I’ll keep coming back!
