Johnscher by SJ - San Juan Curitiba

Breakfast had nice choices and good coffee, and the desk arranged a reservation at a nearby restaurant for us, which I appreciated. There was always someone who spoke English available, around the clock. The J combines its 1900s character with some modern touches, though being an old hotel does make it quirky. Our room was very quiet but had no view. The bed felt short for me at over 195 cm. The shower drained poorly because of the flat floor, and the bedroom lighting could be better. We couldn’t get the TV working, though we weren’t interested in watching it anyway. There are no USB charging outlets, so bring your own plug. The location is quite central, but there isn’t shopping nearby. The municipal market is a must-see, about a 20-minute walk away. Uber is very cheap and safe for getting around.

The building’s historic feel gave my stay a quaint touch, and the accommodations were great. Breakfast was great too. The staff were extremely friendly, caring, and proactive. They seemed short staffed, but weren’t afraid to take on different roles and would go the extra mile when needed. I’d definitely recommend the place and stay again.

The location was very convenient, and breakfast was included with a nice selection. Check-in was unpleasant because the receptionist kept pushing night tour packages I wasn’t interested in. I also tried the hotel’s famous restaurant for dinner, but after waiting 20 minutes without anyone coming to take my order, I gave up and bought a pizza. I stayed a few nights, with a few ups and downs.

The staff were very polite, and the room was spacious. This seems to be Curitiba’s only old historic hotel with modernized decor. We’d booked online, but when we arrived, the assigned room had two single beds and there wasn’t a room available matching what we’d booked. They quickly sorted it out by upgrading us to another room. We got room 211, a suite for couples. Breakfast is served from 6 to 10 am.
