The owners were kind and helpful, and the price was among the lowest on the island. Those are the reasons I’m giving it three stars. The rooms are tiny, around 10 square meters each, and one is meant to sleep four. With everyone’s suitcases open, there’s barely room to move without climbing onto the beds. The bathroom is very basic, and sometimes there’s no water. Most of the property is shared space, and breakfast is just coffee from a carafe and some fruit. Wi-Fi is almost nonexistent unless the owner is there to share her phone hotspot. The buggies are old dirt-road vehicles, so you need some driving experience and should be careful. The setting is rough around the edges, with dirt roads and rundown houses nearby, though there are stunning beaches and spots around the island. The photos also gave me higher expectations than the place met. I’d only recommend it to someone looking to spend relatively little while visiting a truly unique place. Don’t expect to get by in English, either. Almost everyone speaks Portuguese. Anywhere else in the world, I wouldn’t have paid €20 a night.
