We’d happily stay here again. The rooms are a little small, but the private terrace has lovely views and enough room to hang wet clothes. Breakfast was varied and really good, and the place was very clean. The staff were super friendly, and the owner always knew what the sea was like for diving, snorkeling, and other activities. We sometimes wished the restaurant stayed open a bit later, though it makes sense that they open early for breakfast.

The sea-view room was spacious, with a veranda, and the bathroom and shower felt modern. Breakfast was excellent, especially the fruit and chocolate cake. Andresa at the front desk was a ray of sunshine, and the whole staff went out of their way to make things easy. They arranged great suggestions for buggy hire, boat trips, canoeing, and guides, including having the buggy delivered to and collected from the hotel and a hiking guide meet us there in the morning. Special mention to Felipe, whose guide recommendation and catamaran suggestion suited us far better than the alternative boat packed with six-pack-drinking twenty-year-olds.

Pousada Alto Mar was our home for a week on what turned out to be the most amazing honeymoon destination. It felt like paradise, with excellent service, wonderful food, and a beautiful, relaxing, clean place to stay. We promised to come back when we left, and I really recommend it.

After I booked, the island introduced a mandatory vaccination requirement. Even so, this establishment chose to charge me half the cost during my birthday week, of all times. It felt greedy.
