Pousada Maramar

We booked directly with the owner of Maramar in Fernando de Noronha, agreeing to pay 50% by Pix and the rest during our stay. We paid for September 13-22, but flight problems meant we only arrived on September 14. We never saw the property's administrators while we were there. The owner sent someone else to collect the remaining payment in cash. Because of the flight issues with Gol, we asked her for a receipt for the nights we'd paid for so we could seek reimbursement for the first night from the airline. The inn still hasn't provided one. The owner simply doesn't answer messages or calls. I don't recommend this place.

We wanted somewhere affordable since we planned to spend most of our time on island tours and mainly needed a place to sleep. This inn suited us: no frills, just what we were looking for. The view of the beach and peak is incredible. There’s no breakfast, but a nearby snack bar has great, cheap coffee. The room had a fridge, good beds, air conditioning and a good shower. There’s also a fully equipped kitchen where you can make whatever you like, as long as you clean up afterward since other guests use it too.

We were misled by the owner, who took our payment for the nights and then disappeared. She never replied or got back to us. The inn does exist, and we went there trying to get some answers, but it felt abandoned. Only a caretaker was there, and she couldn't tell us anything. She messaged the owner too, without getting a response. Such a shame, especially since the island itself is perfect and wonderful. I'd suggest staying somewhere else. Casa Noronheiro is perfect, with great service, and the staff are always helpful and attentive.

The internet was pretty unreliable, though that's common across the whole island. Otherwise, we were pleasantly surprised: the inn was prettier and cozier than expected, very clean, and great value compared with other places on the island. The staff were friendly, the rooms comfortable and cleaned daily, and it was easy to get around, with a bus stop nearby and the town center walkable. A trail leads straight down to praia da Conceição, about an 8-minute walk. There’s a shower and a deck with an ocean view, plus a simple, inexpensive restaurant next door where we ate breakfast every day. It wasn't the tastiest, but much cheaper than other places on the island. Ge welcomed us, shared tips, and let us check out later so we had time to shower before going to the airport.
