Coliseu Palace Residence

There was a strange smell in the hallway when we arrived, and we found cockroaches. The apartment was missing basics like knives, glasses, and cups. Service and attention left a lot to be desired. They didn’t clean or change the sheets during my 8 days there, and customer service didn’t respond, or just replied “ok” without offering any solution.

The place is genuinely clean and well sanitized, and the beds were made with sheets, though there was a urine smell as soon as you walked into the apartment. The beds were unbelievably hard; after a week, my body was already aching. The place also feels old. There were only three glasses, no coffee cups, and just three sets of cutlery. I wouldn’t stay again except maybe for a weekend. That said, the price is very affordable, so if that’s what you’re after and you’re okay with a basic place, it could work.

Hotel Coliseu Palace was a horrible experience. The place is run down and seemed abandoned. On arrival, I waited more than two hours for the room key. Checkout was at 12:00, but I didn’t get into the room until 15:10, while two cleaners were still cleaning it. The listing photos and offer showed rooms for three people with either three single beds or a double bed and bunk beds. The room I got had just a double bed and a sofa. I asked for a single bed, but nothing was done, so I spent all three nights on the sofa, which smelled moldy and was really hard. The windows were broken, with holes covered by napkins. There was no toilet paper, and it wasn’t brought when I asked. Rooms were for two or three people, but on our trip some guests didn’t know each other, and they provided just one key per room, making it hard for people with different plans to come and go. Nobody was at the front desk except when handing over the key, and after that the place felt completely abandoned. They gave us a code for the gate, while the building’s front door stayed wide open all night, with no security since anyone could be given the code. The toilet flush button leaked, the supplied sheets and towels were old and worn, the TV remote had no batteries and no replacements were provided, and the air conditioning didn’t work well.

The photos didn’t match what we were offered, and the experience was terrible. The staff responsible for the place were absent except when collecting the check-in fee, and they were rude when we complained, telling us we could leave the apartment even though we’d already paid. The mattresses were hard, the pillows worn out, and there were no kitchen utensils. Hygiene was poor, there were huge cockroaches, the safe wouldn’t lock, and the Wi-Fi was weak. A sign on the door said the property was for sale, which seemed to explain the lack of interest from the staff and owners.
