Ecobox Hostel

I only booked a night at Ecobox because the other hostels were full. It cost about 70 reals, and the receptionist was friendly, but the place was in rough shape. There’s just one 30-bed dorm, and the setup barely works. The air conditioning ran constantly, the room smelled like an old granny, and the upper bunk at the far end was about five meters off the ground. Getting up its flimsy ladder was a challenge. The supposedly clean linen was dusty, and the mattress was visibly covered in mold, which disgusted me. It was also extremely hot up there, and the curtain meant choosing between privacy and airflow. There was a small light and an electrical outlet, but the Wi-Fi barely worked. The bathrooms and toilets were dirty, and the electrical wires all looked as though they might fall down and electrocute someone. There’s no key, so you rely on the receptionist, which seemed to work. At checkout, a different receptionist offered me a dirty cup for water. When I insisted, he kindly returned with another dirty cup. I’d pay a little more for a better hostel. If the Brazilian government inspected this place, I think it would be shut immediately.

The hostel is clean and fun, and the staff are informed and really pleasant to chat with. Its city-center location also makes it easy to get around, with interesting sights to visit and affordable food nearby. I’d definitely recommend staying here :)

Breakfast came with good cakes, and the Wi-Fi worked very well. The place itself was clean and peaceful, and Netflix was available too. The kitchen, though, was really dirty, and I even saw worms.

Amazing place, the rooms are clean and the people are very welcoming.
