HANNA Praia Hotel

Being so close to the beach was the best part: it's one block away, and just 20 metres from a main street with places to eat. Breakfast was decent, with more choice during the first few days. In the last three days, I'm not sure if there were fewer guests, but the selection was almost nonexistent. The room was a mess. Paint was peeling, there were damp stains and bugs, and the old spring mattress had bits sticking out that could scratch your leg if you walked too close. When they had no bath towels to replace ours, they left us two hand towels to use for showering. Once, they left the bed with only the fitted sheet because there wasn't a spare sheet. The plastic shower, bathroom faucet missing a handle, ancient broken wardrobe, and rusty fridge with a bad smell all added to it. Bags of used towels and sheets and even broken beds sat in the hallways for days. The pool was neglected too. Housekeeping barely amounted to making the bed, if you hadn't already done it yourself. One day we came back and the same sand from the previous day was still on the bathroom floor. The Wi-Fi was impossible if you needed to work during the trip. Reception staff didn't even say hello, and in our other visits to Brazilian cities we never felt this kind of indifference from hotel staff. You go on vacation hoping for the comfort of home or better, and this was awful. If we return to Canasvieiras, we already know where we won't stay.

The damp walls and very thin mattresses made the room uncomfortable, and it looked nothing like the pictures on the website. Twice, we were left with no towels for bathing. Reception was no help with problems. They'd switch to Portuguese as if pretending not to understand us.

The beach is only a block and a half away, and the staff, especially at breakfast, were friendly, polite, and helpful. Breakfast itself had plenty of tasty options. But we spent our stay repeatedly calling maintenance. The air conditioning wasn't working right, the bathroom door had no handle and my friend got locked inside, and the water kept going off. The facilities need a lot of work, in appearance and function. The reception has old, broken, uncomfortable armchairs with the wood showing, which makes a poor impression. The rooms were mediocre, with old mattresses and a very old TV that didn't work at all. Apart from the staff, the location is the only good thing. There are better hotels at the same distance from the beach, so this one isn't worth it.

The sewage smell in reception was unbearable, and we had to pass through it on the way to breakfast. In the room, damp patches on the walls came with a terrible odor. The air conditioning barely worked beyond fan mode, and unless it blew straight at you, the heat was unbearable. They'd pushed two single beds together to make a double, but there was no mattress cover, only a sheet. Every night we wound up sleeping right on the mattress. The furniture was old, the faucets were broken and peeling, and the Wi-Fi kept dropping out so we had to use mobile data the whole time. On top of all that, the neighbor's roosters started crowing at 5 AM, making it impossible to sleep. A disaster!
