DoubleTree by Hilton Foz do Iguacu

Getting to the falls wasn't too difficult, and the location was the one good thing about this hotel. The rooms felt dated, the furniture was in poor repair, and the toiletries were very basic. Breakfast was poor. The ingredients seemed like the cheapest available, and I've never had a tomato with so little taste. There were no cups, and when we asked, the staff looked confused and lost. The breakfast staff seemed completely incompetent. Reception staff never even said hello when we approached. I wouldn't recommend it.

The rooms were extremely clean, but felt dated and more like three-star rooms in a hotel that otherwise seemed five-star. The bathrooms had little bar soaps, small old vanities, and dated shower heads. There was no iron or house shoes. The staff were amazing and very accommodating, and check-in was easy. I can't remember everyone's names, but I do remember Vitor walking me out when I left. He was patient, kind, and engaging, and helped with my heavy bags without making me feel like a bother.

The gym was good, though the sauna was only open at certain times. A few staff members went out of their way to help us with problems. The location was good, close to the falls, but service was slow at times and fell short of what I'd expect from a five-star hotel. We booked half board, but vegetarian choices were limited. It took many reminders to the staff before they finally arranged food for us. I expected better from a Hilton.

A good base for visiting both sides of the Iguazu Falls. The Johnny Rockets burger was solid, and Vitor was very helpful with our taxi arrangements and luggage when we left.
