This feels like the kind of place movie murder scenes are inspired by. If you’re thinking of booking a cheap night, fair warning: the bed seems unchanged since 1920, and the shower gives you only two choices, hot or cold. There were no towels or toilet paper until I asked for them. The bathroom was super gross, and the floor had a sewage smell. Good luck.

The only reason we stayed was out of politeness, since our friends had paid for it. After that experience, I wouldn’t go near the place again. The rooms were awful: the bed seemed like it had never been changed, with a yellowed mattress covered by a sheet. It was also very noisy and uncomfortable. The bathroom was even worse. The window wouldn’t close, the shower tap was broken, and water sprayed everywhere. The shower had only two settings, freezing or scalding. The room didn’t seem ready for guests. The TV wasn’t connected to cable or power, the fridge was unplugged, and we had to ask reception for towels and toilet paper. I’ve never had that happen in any hotel, guesthouse, or hostel I’ve stayed in. Breakfast was dull and had almost no choices. The only thing that helped was the reception staff, though thinking about it now, they may be just as complicit as the owners in charging over R$200 a night for a place falling apart. We also saw cockroaches.
