Smart Cataratas Hotel

My room had a living room and kitchen, and the area felt safe. Breakfast had a nice variety, the staff were courteous, and it was very good value.

The room was huge, with an entire empty space we didn’t need. There wasn’t an outlet or light switch by the bed, so after lying down tired I had to cross two big rooms to switch off the light by the door. My phone also had to charge in another room, away from the bed. The bed was very uncomfortable and slanted to one side, so it felt like I was falling off. The pillow was as thin as a sheet of paper. The towels and sheets looked clean at first, but had yellow and red stains. The AC and minibar were old and so noisy that they took turns keeping us awake all night. I woke up several times. The bathroom was awful. I’m short and still had to be careful not to hit my shoulders on the shower enclosure. When I opened the cabinet, its door came off in my hand, so I gave up putting my things in it. One day my husband flushed the toilet and a lot of water leaked onto the floor around the base. We didn’t understand what had happened, though I was glad the water seemed fairly clean, as if it had leaked while the toilet was refilling. Worst of all, the shower temperature control didn’t work. The pressure was good, but the water was far too hot, probably around 40°C. Turning the control made no difference, so the choices were to turn it off or get scalded. There wasn’t a single water filter in the hotel where we could fill a bottle, and the WiFi worked poorly. I was looking for a simple place with a good location and basic facilities to rest, since we were on a leisure trip and planned to be out every day. Instead, the room was very uncomfortable. I think it’s crazy that this hotel has an 8/10 on Booking.com and 4.2/5 on Google. I’d give it at most 6/10 or 3/5. I don’t recommend it and wouldn’t return. If you want comfort, don’t book here.
