Pousada Villa Dos Geranios

The team really stood out. They were so kind and welcoming that we felt embraced by them. The inn is at the end of a quiet street and has parking, and it’s fairly close to the main attractions between Gramado and Canela. It’s a simple place, but clean and very comfortable. The beds and blankets are great, and they clean daily and change the towels. The shower gets very hot with good pressure. There’s no air conditioning, but there is a heater and, on request, a fireplace. Breakfast is great, with fruit, bread, and cake every day. The coffee tastes homemade, nothing like the watery or burnt-tasting coffee at big hotel chains.

The cottages are spacious and cozy, with a bed warmer and fireplace to take the chill off. Breakfast tastes good, but there isn’t much variety and it’s always the same. You have to request room cleaning, though they change the towels daily even when there’s no need. The TV is tiny for the room, and the one in mine was wobbly enough to look like it could fall at any moment. The staff are nice and attentive, but one interaction left me feeling singled out. I was planning to go to Floryball park, which offers transport there and back, and asked one employee to call for me since I’d have to pay for a long-distance call because of the area code. She said she couldn’t use the inn’s phone and her own had no credit. I said okay and used my own phone. A little later, another guest asked about a transfer from Gramado to Porto Alegre, and she immediately called the person she was recommending and even handed the guest her phone to speak with the driver. I didn’t like that. I hadn’t done anything to give her a reason to refuse my call.

We had a great few days at the start of Natal Luz in 2021. The cottage gave the four of us comfort and our own space, with good value for money. It’s a little far from the main street, but that’s no problem if you have a car. The staff were attentive and cheerful, and breakfast was really good, with a bit of everything. The croissant was divine. The room was simple but comfortable, with a hot-water tap, hair dryer, and a very good shower. The beds had heaters.

Villa dos Geranios was disappointing. There’s a lack of preventive maintenance and the manager showed no empathy. She was also very unfriendly. I noticed other guests complaining about their cottages, too, and breakfast was very poor. The bathroom door in our chalet wouldn’t close when we arrived at night. We waited two days for maintenance to fix it so we could have some privacy. The next evening, we came back from an outing to find the chalet completely dark with no lights. We had to wait again for the maintenance worker. After three nights, we ran out of gas and had no hot shower. We spent two days showering in cold water in Gramado’s chilly weather. That’s no way to treat customers. Don’t waste your time or money here.
