Pousada Guapuruvu

The location is about a 15-minute walk from the center. The rooms are simple, but perfectly good, especially the bed. Check-in was frustrating: we messaged the owner or manager, but he wasn't there when we arrived, so we waited a long time. He also wouldn't arrange a basic breakfast before 8 the next day, saying the bread only arrived then. We came down at 7:30 and the bread was already there.

The room was clean and cleaned daily, and the air conditioning worked really well. Most of the rest of the stay was rough. Breakfast was mostly ham and cheese toasties, scrambled eggs, sausage stew, and cake. Then the eggs and sausages disappeared, the toaster broke, and all that was left was white bread, cheap ham, and cheese. At that point breakfast didn't seem worth trying. There was construction going on, though I guess they have to do it sometime. When I arrived, nobody was at reception, and the staff member I dealt with spoke barely any English. The cleaner also left her keys in my door for half a day, which didn't feel secure. They hose down the common areas instead of using a mop or vacuum, leaving the whole place flooded and hard to use for quite a while. Horrible experience in a lot of ways. I'll pick another hostel next time.

No lights, poor service. Just terrible.
