After our first of two nights, the only contact from the pousada was an obviously automated request for a review, sent before we’d even had breakfast. Here’s the review: our room is leaking through the ceiling from the room above. I’m baffled that this pousada has good reviews. The rooms are dark and damp, and the service is nonexistent. During power cuts, the generator serves half the rooms and the restaurant, but not the rooms at the back. The windows have no bug screens, so they don’t feel safe to open, and it’s too hot to sleep. The generator also makes the whole room shake and is very noisy. When we asked whether it could be extended to the back rooms, they said it wasn’t possible. It feels like they care about restaurant guests more than people who’ve prepaid for rooms. I wouldn’t recommend staying here.

The front desk staff were friendly, and it’s handy for the ferry, just a short walk away. But the room conditions were hard to overlook: it was dark, moldy, dusty, and full of mosquitoes. There were no window screens or mosquito repellents, and breakfast was disappointing, with stale pastries from the day before. I stayed a few months ago when the place was on sale, so I’m not sure whether management has changed.

The rooms are great, and there’s a nice breakfast buffet. The owners are fantastic, very friendly, and a big help with getting around and planning your trip. Don’t hesitate to ask them.

The location is good for a budget stay, though the rooms feel a bit cramped and breakfast choices are limited. There’s no complimentary bottled water or tea and coffee setup in the room.
