Opaba Praia Hotel

The staff were really good at their jobs, and I’d happily recommend this beautiful hotel. When I return to Ilhéus with my future wife, I’m confident I’ll stay here again. On the day I arrived, though, a guest from a European country was rude to people there. It was uncomfortable to watch. The staff kindly asked him to wear a mask, and I had to ask him too, but he put it on his head and said nobody could tell him what to do. I don’t like wearing masks either, but I follow and respect the authorities in my country. The situation ended when he left with his wife. She even ripped up their reservation papers in a way I couldn’t believe. I’m grateful to the hotel staff.

My pregnant wife and I tried to check in, but another guest got into a conflict with us because we preferred not to wear masks. We’d paid for the room, but left without checking in while that guest screamed about calling the police. If the hotel chooses those guests and the business they bring, that’s its choice. We checked in at Jardim atlantic instead, without any problem. Anyone who feels safer with all the covid-19 restrictions is welcome to visit. We’re ordinary people who’d rather enjoy our stay than feel uncomfortable.

The beachside hotel is beautiful, with lots of plants and a little pool upstairs. My room was a bit shabby, and the sink drain clearly wasn’t working. There were mosquitoes too.

The bathroom was really small, and although I was in the “Luxo” category, the furniture was old. The shower didn’t work and they only managed to fix it the day after we arrived. The sink was leaking too.
