The room was clean, which was a plus, and breakfast had a good variety. But there were a lot of problems. If you arrive by car, getting down the street is awful because the market stalls make it almost impossible to pass. Cars can get stuck in the parking lot, and you’re supposed to give 30 minutes’ notice when you need yours. If the hotel is out of spaces, they move cars to another affiliated lot. Getting a car out is so difficult that walking is easier. The rooms are old and dim, and the bath water had way too much chlorine. The balcony had no privacy: the bathroom window of the room next door opened onto it, and my neighbor stuck their head into my balcony. There wasn’t a chair in the room, just the bed. Reception was brief and to the point, without much warmth. The elevators are old too, and the room door still uses a key in a lock.

We had a family room with two single beds and one double. It was good value, and breakfast was excellent. The location was convenient, about a 20-minute walk from the sanctuary in Aparecida.

We stayed for three days, two adults and our son. The room and bathroom were clean and comfortable, the staff were attentive, breakfast was great, and the location was very good. For a quieter visit, I think Monday through Thursday is best. The city gets much busier on weekends. If you’re there for religious tourism, which I think is Aparecida’s main draw, weekdays should make it easier to take it all in. We were very satisfied.

The location was the one good point. The rooms are very dated and need freshening up. Ours was dirty and had broken items, including the toilet seat and TV remote. The corridor was dirty too. Something had fallen on the floor, and it was still there two days later. They could also provide a hair dryer in the bathroom. At breakfast, the butter sachet was dark when we opened it.

Breakfast started out promising, but it was a letdown. There weren’t many choices, the Minas cheese smelled sour, and the papaya was overripe and hadn’t been cleaned, with seeds left in it. The presentation and selection were poor. I’ve been coming to Aparecida for 10 years, and this was the worst breakfast. I couldn’t even enjoy it.
