Pousada Vila Verde

There aren’t many hotel or inn options in Olivença, but this place made me rethink what an inn should be like. The rooms were dark and lacked privacy, and I could hear absolutely everything from the room next door. I wouldn’t return. The reception experience also wasn’t good. The owner was constantly walking around and watching the guests. I wanted to use the pool, but heard guests say they didn’t like it getting crowded because it could become disorderly. Breakfast was so-so. I noticed they cut a pie into tiny pieces, saved it, and served the same pie on later days. When a guest asked for scrambled eggs, the employee made such a sour face that I would have dropped the request. We were there just after the pandemic had ended. They wouldn’t let people walk around the open areas without masks, but everyone took theirs off once seated at the breakfast tables. Anyone who wasn’t wearing a mask while standing before sitting down got scolded by staff. It felt like we were guests in a relative’s house.

My room had air conditioning and a fan, plus a double bed and a single bed. It was a great place to stay, near the beach, a restaurant, a bathing area, and a bus stop. The accommodation was very good, and breakfast was wonderful, served at a separate table beside the room. Excellent service, too.

Joelma and Américo made us feel right at home, with such a warm, friendly, VIP welcome. The inn itself is beautiful, and the rooms were comfortable and very clean, with both a fan and air conditioning. Breakfast was delicious and had lots of variety. I recommend it, and we’ll definitely come back.
