Pousada Refúgio do Forte

I’ve been coming here for 11 years, and I like it so much that I consider them family. My very first welcome was so lovely that I felt right at home. Edna and Gilso are always warm and friendly, and José, who works there, is a wonderful person. The women in the kitchen take care of everything with such care.

I was born and grew up there, and Dona Edna did a wonderful job raising me through my childhood. It really is a beautiful inn, with peace, fun, and comfort.

The room was clean and the location was good, just 3 minutes from the beach. Those were the only real positives, though. We expected more, especially for the price. The walls were dirty, the bathroom tiny, and the light switch was only by the entrance, so you had to get up to turn it off. The cold shower couldn’t be adjusted, and the air conditioner was so loud it made sleeping difficult. Breakfast was very limited, maybe a 3 or 4 out of 10. The tables weren’t set, and the juices weren’t natural. The room door stuck once, then again, and a third time. After we called reception, we were locked inside for 20 minutes until a cleaner in the next room managed to open it from the outside. Otherwise, who knows how long we’d have been stuck there. The inn needs renovation and more responsibility when handling problems.

Simple, but a wonderful inn, close to the excursions and to the must-do trip to coroa do avião. The typical Pernambuco dinner was the best. The cooks are terrific, and the food reminded me of my voinha. This is the place for real home-style food.
