Hotel Chalés Terra Nova

The rooms are cozy and the road is easy and quiet to drive. Such a peaceful place, with a gorgeous view, lovely pools, and really sweet staff. It’s near Parque Nacional de Itatiaia, and you can be around the animals. A perfect spot. I want to come back soon!

An incredible place in the middle of the forest. Mr. Ivan, the owner, welcomed us so warmly. I’ll be back again. Grateful for the experience!

We stayed here in June 2025. The hotel grounds are quite nice, but the property is badly deteriorated. The playground equipment is falling apart, the ropes course doesn't work, and the common room with karaoke is closed and covered in dust. My children were even told off for going in, though the door was open. There seem to be very few staff, and not everyone is suited to dealing with guests. When we needed help, we either didn't get it or were charged extra at checkout without being told beforehand. The room wasn't refreshed each day, and soap wasn't replenished. There were no shampoo kits, just a small soap. We had no wastebaskets in our room, and the fans were covered in dust. We spent the stay taking allergy medicine, but the reactions to the general condition of the room didn't stop. There were lots of wood-boring beetles, old dressers, stained floors and toilet, and the cleaning was inadequate. Some pillows in the room were moldy, and the sheets and towels were stained and unpleasant-looking. Breakfast was simple with little variety, and there weren't options for people who avoid sugar or want healthier food. Chipped and broken plates and glasses were put out for guests to use.

My husband and I stayed in chalet 5 from 12-14/07. Those were the last days of my vacation, and easily the best part. From our first contact, everyone was friendly and helpful. We didn't have a car, so Mr. Ivan, the owner, gave us the number of a trusted driver who could take us around. He was another wonderful person we were glad to meet. We were welcomed warmly on arrival, and the service stayed excellent throughout. There's nature all around, and the place is ideal for people with a car and children. Getting there without a car isn't too difficult, though: Uber comes to the property, and they can also recommend a driver. It's easy to reach from Itatiaia, Resende, or Penedo, and close to all the sights. The accommodations are a good size, and Mr. Ivan is an engineer, so you can see the care he's put into the place. For recreation, there's a playground sturdy enough for adults too, several kinds of pools, including an indoor heated one that's a big plus, and lots of well cared for animals. I believe breakfast is included in every package. It was good, with the kind of mountain food everyone loves. They sell pizza in the evening, and it was tasty and fairly priced. The hotel is mainly a place to stay, so it makes sense that there's no full dinner menu or much variety. There are restaurants nearby, and Penedo is also a practical option for dinner. The staff are the real gem, even with the lovely, welcoming grounds. Rita was our first contact at the hotel and greeted us with such joy. She's friendly and so easy to become friends with. Creuza, who runs the dining room, was incredibly welcoming, pleasant company, and always helpful. Mr. Ivan is one of a kind. You can tell he loves what he does, and he's a great guy. I wish we'd had more time to talk with him. We got to enjoy everything, and the staff played a big part in making our stay so good. I recommend it without hesitation. We'll be back soon!
