Village Colonial Hotel

The inn is quiet and cozy, surrounded by nature, and the breakfast was great. The staff kept replenishing things as they ran out, and the receptionist was attentive and helpful. It’s only about an eight-minute drive from the center, so I’d happily return. Some upkeep would make a difference, though. A few investments in the rooms and garden would improve the details.

The place was dirty, with tree leaves scattered around most of the grounds. The pool had a lot of leaves in it, and the pool table was unusable. I stayed with my family after booking through Booking. I’d been told we could check in an hour early, but when we arrived, staff said no such arrangement had been made. The person in charge asked me to cancel through Booking so the property wouldn’t have to pay the fee. I did, then realized I shouldn’t have. They also wouldn’t offer any flexibility with checkout time.

The location is great, and the room has good space and decor, but the maintenance needs work. When I turned on the shower, the handle came off, and pressing the toilet flush valve caused water to leak. The pool should be cleaned in the morning after windy rain before guests get up to use it. The pool table was slanted and impossible to play on. Breakfast was basic. I hope they make the improvements they’ve talked about for future guests.

Being close to nature means insects and small animals may show up. I’d suggest adding screens to the bedroom windows and doors to keep them from getting into the rooms.
